GateCityArt is presenting the gallery exhibition Waking Eyes. This event will be taking place at The Space - 340 Tate Street on Friday, May 26th, 2006. This Event will be getting started at 8pm.

This show is open to all local artist, if you would like to submit to the show please bring your work by The Space - 340 Tate St. The submission fees are $10 for two pieces of work and you are guaranteed that one piece will be exhibited in the show. Submissions are being taking now and the submission process will remain open until Wednesday May 24th. If you would like to submit your work to this show please contact us via email or you can call us at 336.254.5645 to set up a time to meet at The Space and drop off the work, or just stop by and drop off your work.

The show will be open from Friday, May 26th to Tuesday, May 30th.

For the most part we are back and fully operational. We have switch hosting companies and now GateCityArt.org resides on a new server w/ a new hosting company. We decided to switch companies when our old company dropped the ball and tried to transfer one server to another and then that server crashed, leaving us down for a day or so starting last Wednesday night. This downtime could not have happened at a worst time since we had two events last weekend, so our old hosting company moved us temporarily, or so we thought, to a more stable but slower server so we could get back up and running. This transfer messed a lot of things up with the site and basically broke the online gallery. Then we got to work getting everything working again and in doing that we realized that the server we were moved to was way to slow for our needs, since we host a good amount of images. So we contacted our old hosting company and asked to be moved to a faster server and they basically told us that the server we were on was fine. SO to make a long story short we have cancelled hosting with them and moved to our new home with DreamHost.

There are still some issues with the site, but for the most part we are back up and running. The one major issue we are still having is our calendar is not working yet. Another issues is that if you click on the gallery image in the side bar of the site the page format gets messed up. we are working to fix these issues and hope to have everything worked out soon.

One major thing that has changed is that “right click” has been disabled in the Online Gallery portion of the site to help keep the integrity of the artist work. We have also made it so that you can not browse the index folders and gain direct access to the file of the work from the site and save/download them from there. We have done this since a few submitting artist have asked for it, so that people can not just download their artwork.

Please let us know if you run into any issues with the site, and we do apologize for all the issues that we have been having over the past week.

We have been experiencing server issues for the past three days or so, we are working hard to fix the problem and get the site running smoothly again. The problems all began when our hosting company changed the server our site was on and the new server crashed in the middle of the transfer. After that we were bounced between three different servers, until settling in on one. We are now on our new server, where we will be staying and just have to work out all the bugs of being moved around and around. The main area that we are having difficulties with is the online gallery. We hope to have it all up and running by Monday morning. The biggest concern we have is not losing any data from our gallery, so we are taking all the proper measures with back-ups so that we can get back to serving the art community once again. we apologize for any inconvenience this down time has caused any of our users and hope to be back up and fully operational ASAP.

GateCityArt presents the gallery exhibition Your Art Here. This event will be taking place at The Space [340 Tate Street] on Friday, April 21st, 2006. This Event will be getting started at 8pm and will include art of mixed media, including Painting, Drawing, and Scupture.

This show is open to all local artist, if you would like to submit to the show please contact us or stop by The Space. The deadline for dropping off work is Wednesday, April 19th, and the location is at 340 Tate st. But anyone interested in submitting should call Doug VanOast at 336.254.5645 to make sure there will be someone there or to schedule a time to meet. Doug will also be down at The Space on Tuesday and Wednesday after 6pm and all day Thursday getting the show ready so feel free to stop by and drop off your work.

GateCityArt would like to thank Lauren Bergrud for allowing Οδοδείκτες, a social/spiritual bi-monthly magazine based in Greece, to publish her work Lost Woods that was submitted to our first gallery show Creative Impulse. The art director of the magazine saw her work on our online gallery and contacted us with their interest in using the image of Lauren’s painting to supplement one of their magazines articles. We then contacted Lauren so that we could get her permission to let Οδοδείκτες reproduce her painting, and she graciously said yes, so from all of us here at GateCityArt Thank You and Congratulations on getting your painting internationally published.
